Zion Williamson is an exceptional talent in the NBA. During his time with the New Orleans Pelicans, he has garnered two All-Star recognitions and has managed an impressive career average of 25.8 points per game.

Unfortunately, basketball fans only get to witness his skills when he’s in shape and on the court. Injuries have forced him courtside more often, resulting in a mere 114 games played over four seasons, a concerning number for a young talent like him.

Health problems continue to plague Williamson, and there’s an increasing speculation that his tenure with the Pelicans might be cut short sooner than later. Amid this chatter, William Guillory of The Athletic relates that one person associated with the NBA has raised the possibility of the Pelicans parting ways to their two-time All-Star.

Per The Athletic:

“During my time in Vegas, I heard opinions from a few folks who were all over the place when it comes to Williamson and his current value. I had one person associated with a team tell me New Orleans should pull the plug on his era while they have the chance this offseason.”

Of course, it’s not only the doubters who are keeping an eye on Williamson. There are still those who have faith in his comeback next season. In fact, one optimist told the The Athletic’s Guillory that Williamson could be a contender for the MVP title next season.

“I had another person tell me he believes Williamson is going to be fueled by all the controversy this summer and become an MVP candidate in 2023-24.”
