Anonymous Western Conference GM On Ja Morant-Zion Williamson Comparison: “It’s Just Like KD And Oden”

While Zion Williamson continues to recover from a foot injury, NBA draft rival and former No.2 overall pick Ja Morant is having quite a career year, putting up 28.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game on 52.1% shooting through six games this season.

As of result of Morant’s strong start, the debate between him and Williamson has been heating up as of late, with more people leaning towards the 22-year Memphis Grizzlies point guard over the former No.1 overall pick.

Of course, it might’ve been too early to suggest that Morant has finally settled the debate, considering that Williamson arguably topped him last season after making his first All-Star game and finishing his sophomore year with averages 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists on an efficient 61.1% shooting from the field.

In terms of a re-draft however, one anonymous Western Conference general manager says he would’ve taken Morant over Williamson first while suggesting that the decision wouldn’t even be close if the re-draft was held today.

He then capped off his statement by comparing Morant and Williamson’s situation to that of Kevin Durant and Greg Oden back in the 2007 NBA draft, where Durant landed as the second pick and ended up having the better career.

Per Fox Sports:

“Oh, God, yeah,” the West GM said when asked if he’d make Morant his first choice in the 2019 NBA draft, “It wouldn’t even be close.”

He then underscored his perspective with a comparison that has to send a chill through Williamson, the Pelicans and every fan of both, “It’s just like KD and Oden,” he said. “That’s the obvious corollary.”
