Why Stephen Curry Turned Down A Role In LeBron James’ Space Jam 2

The trailer for ‘Space Jam 2: A New Legacy’ starring LeBron James and the Looney Tunes characters just dropped this past weekend, and everyone is pretty stoked about it.

Like Michael Jordan’s 1996 Space Jam, the upcoming sequel is also filled with a number of basketball stars. Aside from LeBron James, the movie also features Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumuke. Draymond Green, Kyle Kuzma, Kyrie Irving and Chris Paul are also rumored to make cameo appearances in the movie.

One big name had the opportunity to be part of the movie and make this already-star-studded cast even more teasing, and that was Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry. However, the three-time champion turned the role down, and later expressed that he didn’t like the timing of the filming during an interview back in 2019.

Per NBC Sports:

“I said no. The timing of it. I know LeBron and Ryan Coogler are going to be doing amazing things. It’s going to be awesome. Part of it was in terms of things that I had going on. It was just the timing, to be honest. Not being able to commit.

He’s (Ryan Coogler) at every playoff game,” Curry said, adding, “Obviously, that’s hard to turn down. The guy does amazing work.”
