Why Dennis Rodman Is One Of The Few People Who Don’t Have Respect For Gregg Popovich

Gregg Popovich has been the San Antonio Spurs for 25 straight years now, and it is safe to say that he’s one of the most respected coaches in the league.

Pop not only has led the Spurs to a winning record in most of his seasons as a head coach (.659 overall win percentage), but also to all five of their NBA titles.

Just recently, Popovich became the coach with the most wins in NBA history. 

But while everybody has the utmost respect for the 73-year old, former NBA star Dennis Rodman begs to differ… not with Pop being an all-time great coach, but with him in his former position as Spurs General Manager and president of basketball operations.

In his ‘Bad As I Wann Be’ that Rodman published the year before Popovich took over as Spurs head coach, he is talking about his very controversial stint with the San Antonio Spurs.

“The biggest problem in San Antonio was Gregg Popovich, the general manager. He wanted to be the coach and the general manager. He stood around and held Bob Hill’s [the then head coach of the Spurs] hand every day, saying, “Okay, you’ve got to do this now. It’s time for you to listen to me.” If Hill didn’t do it, Popovich would jump his ass, and so Hill would turn around and jump somebody else’s ass. Shit flows downhill, and it seemed like I was always at the bottom…”
