LeBron James is widely considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time. His career has been marked by numerous accolades, including four NBA championships, four NBA Most Valuable Player awards, and 18 NBA All-Star selections. Since today is LeBron’s 39th birthday, we will take a closer look at his amazing basketball career and explore some of the key moments and achievements that have helped define him as one of the all-time greats.

James was born on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio. He grew up in a single-parent household with his mother Gloria James, who raised him on her own. From an early age, James showed a natural talent for basketball. He played on the local AAU team, the Northeast Ohio Shooting Stars, and quickly gained a reputation as a top-level prospect.

In high school, James attended St. Vincent-St. Mary, where he led the Fighting Irish to three state championships. He was named Ohio’s Mr. Basketball in each of his three seasons and was also a McDonald’s All-American. James was widely considered the top high school basketball player in the country, and he received numerous scholarship offers from top colleges.

Instead of going to college, however, James decided to skip the collegiate route and enter the NBA draft directly. In 2003, he was selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. James made an immediate impact in the league, while being named Rookie of the Year.

Over the next few years, James continued to establish himself as one of the best players in the league. He won his first MVP award in 2009 and led the Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they were eventually eliminated by the Orlando Magic. In 2010, James became a free agent and, in a much-publicized decision, decided to leave Cleveland and join the Miami Heat.

In Miami, James teamed up with fellow All-Stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to form a “superteam” that was expected to dominate the league. The Heat made it to the NBA Finals in each of James’ four seasons with the team, winning championships in 2012 and 2013. James was named Finals MVP in both of those championship runs, solidifying his status as one of the game’s top players.

After four seasons in Miami, James decided to return to Cleveland in 2014. He led the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in his first season back, where they lost to the Golden State Warriors. In 2016, however, James led the Cavaliers to the franchise’s first-ever championship, overcoming a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Warriors in one of the greatest upsets in NBA history. James was named Finals MVP for the third time in his career.

James continued to play at a high level after his return to Cleveland, leading the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in 2017 and 2018. In 2018, he became a free agent once again and decided to join the Los Angeles Lakers. In his second season with the Lakers, James led the team to the NBA championship, earning his fourth Finals MVP award in the process.

He has continued to play at a high level in the years since, took the lead on the NBA’s all-time scoring list and won the inaugural in-season tournament as well as its MVP.
