Rajon Rondo Reveals Having Tried To Outcoach Former Boston Celtics Head Coach Brad Stevens

Rajon Rondo is one of the smartest players in NBA history, with his high basketball IQ on full display throughout his stellar career. He excelled at leading the offense and coordinating plays, a proficiency reflected in both his statistics and team success.

While a guest on “Old Man & The Three,” Rondo gave viewers a glimpse into his deep understanding of basketball and his unique approach to the game. Talking to host JJ Redick, Rondo disclosed that his game strategy was to outsmart the opposing team’s head coach, a feat he meticulously executed against former Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens.

Rondo specifically discussed his experience in the 2017 NBA playoffs against the Celtics when he was playing for the Chicago Bulls. Additionally, while a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Rondo revealed he had an agreement with teammate LeBron James to handle Stevens if they encountered the Celtics in the 2020 NBA Finals.

“When I’m playing the game, I’m not necessarily playing against the players. A great example was when I was going against the Celtics when I played for the Bulls… My mindset is thinking, ‘How can I beat the coach? How can I outcoach the coach?’ Because I feel like I have the power when I am involved in the game,” Rondo said.
