LaMelo Ball Announces He’s Going To Change His Jersey Number: ” I Ain’t Supposed To Wear Two Ever Again”

LaMelo Ball has been one of the league’s bright spots, and he’s just getting started. After winning the Rookie of the Year award last season, the Charlotte Hornets marquee has already etched his name as an All-Star in the NBA.

This year, LaMelo has upped his averages to 20.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game on 41.9% shooting from the field while becoming a key figure for the Hornets.

But after their disappointing blowout loss against the Atlanta Hawks in the play-in tournament, their season doesn’t look as good anymore.

So it’ll be a fresh new start for the young squad next year, and LaMelo will also start off fresh, and even changed the number on his jersey. Ball said he expects to be wearing a No. 1 jersey next season, after successfully petitioning for a number change with the NBA. Melo attempted to change his number to No.1 last year already, after Malik Monk’s (who wore the 1 before) departure to L.A., but missed the deadline.

Per AP News:

“It’s supposed to. I ain’t supposed to wear two ever again in my life. If I see a two, ah man, I don’t know what I’m going to do, I ain’t going to lie to you. I just ain’t never been two. It’s just weird for me. It just don’t feel like you playing, for real. Like, I don’t know who this is. I don’t know who number two is. I know my brother, that’s it. No other number twos.”
