Kyrie Irving Embraces Anthony Edwards’ Pre-Game Confidence: “That’s Why We Love Ant”

Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving acknowledged Anthony Edwards’ comment of “I got Kyrie” as a source of motivation heading into Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.

Edwards, the young Timberwolves star, expressed his confidence in guarding Irving during his post-game interview following their Game 7 win over the Clippers. Irving, watching from home with his family, took note.

“I used it as motivation,” Irving said in his post-game press conference after leading the Mavericks to victory. “I was at home with my family watching Game 7, and Ant comes out and says ‘I got Kyrie.'”

Despite using Edwards’ comment as fuel, Irving also recognized the positive aspect of the young player’s confidence.

“But also it’s a no-fear mentality, that’s why we love Ant,” Irving added, acknowledging Edwards’ rising stardom and fearless approach to the game.

Irving’s response was a masterclass in turning a potential distraction into a positive force. He channeled Edwards’ confidence into his own focus, leading to a dominant performance in Game 1. Irving erupted for 30 points, showcasing his offensive arsenal throughout the contest.

He displayed his signature smooth shooting stroke, knocking down contested jumpers and scoring on drives. Irving also used his crafty ball-handling to create scoring opportunities, both for himself and his teammates.

While Edwards had a respectable showing on the defensive end, Irving’s experience proved too much to handle in the opening game. Irving’s ability to create his own shot and make plays under pressure ultimately tilted the game in Dallas’ favor.
