The Dallas Mavericks turned back the clock during last night’s home game, celebrating the 1980s with some nostalgia. As part of their “Throwback Night” series, the team unveiled a custom jumbotron graphic emulating the classic light bulb marquee style.

The jumbotron animation featured bold block lettering outlined in simulated incandescent bulbs, flickering in rhythmic patterns reminiscent of vintage scoreboards. The design was paired with synth-heavy background music and retro player intros, transporting fans to the Mavericks’ inaugural decade.

The 1980s theme extended beyond the screen. Arena staff wore vintage Mavericks warmups, and the team’s social media channels were flooded with throwback content, from archival footage of Rolando Blackman and Mark Aguirre to pixelated recreations of classic game moments.

Even the in-game entertainment leaned into the theme, with dance cams featuring disco overlays and trivia segments focused on 1980s pop culture and NBA history.

The retro celebration coincided with a much-needed breakthrough on the court: the Dallas Mavericks earned their first win of the 2025–26 season with a 139–129 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Rookie sensation Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, delivered a standout performance with 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Anthony Davis led the team with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while D’Angelo Russell added 24 points off the bench.

After trailing at halftime, the Mavericks exploded in the third quarter, outscoring Toronto 39–25 and committing just one turnover in the period. The win snapped a two-game losing streak and marked a promising start to the Cooper Flagg era in Dallas.
