For Tom Hur, a devoted Detroit Pistons fan from South Korea, basketball has always been more than just a game, it’s been a lifelong passion rooted in loyalty, hope, and a dream that finally came true.
On Sunday, Tom Hur attended his first-ever Pistons home game at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan, marking the emotional culmination of years of dedication from halfway across the globe.

Hur has been known in NBA fan circles as “Korea’s #1 Pistons Fan.” His unwavering support for the team began in the early 2000s, inspired by the grit and heart of the Pistons’ championship run in 2004. Despite living thousands of miles away, Hur followed every game, collected memorabilia, and even created content celebrating the team’s highs and lows.
He’s appeared in fan interviews, podcasts, and social media features, including a TikTok mini-series that spotlighted his story and passion.
Hur’s visit to Detroit was part of a personal pilgrimage. After years of watching games at odd hours from South Korea, he finally stepped into Little Caesars Arena to see the Pistons take on the Boston Celtics.
“I’ve waited my whole life for this,” Hur said in an interview. “To be here, to feel the energy, to see the court… it’s everything I imagined and more.”
Hur was greeted warmly by fellow fans, some of whom recognized him from online features.
