Former Denver Nuggets guard Ty Lawson was arrested in Castle Rock, Colorado, after police accused him of stealing a bottle of Tito’s vodka from a local store.
According to an arrest affidavit, officers responded shortly after 8 p.m. on July 16 when the shop owner reported that a man had taken the bottle without paying and left the business. The owner told police she then saw him drink from it outside before walking to the nearby Scileppi’s restaurant.
The affidavit alleges that Lawson carried the bottle toward the restaurant’s fire-pit area and later sat at the bar with it. The store owner also told officers that he appeared intoxicated and was stumbling.
Police arrested the man, identified in booking records as Tywon Lawson. He faces a misdemeanor charge of theft under $300. The allegation has not been proven in court, and no conviction has been reported.
Lawson played eight NBA seasons, including six with Denver, where he developed into a productive starting point guard. His latest arrest, however, adds another troubling off-court chapter to a career previously affected by alcohol-related legal issues.
The circumstances sound almost too strange to be real: an accomplished former NBA player allegedly leaving a store with a bottle, drinking from it outside and then carrying it into a nearby restaurant.
