NBA Hall of Famer Vlade Divac is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery for a broken hip sustained in a motorcycle accident along the Montenegrin Adriatic coast, according to hospital officials in the town of Risan.
The 57-year-old former center reportedly fell from his motorcycle on Thursday and was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors performed a surgical procedure to implant an artificial hip. Ljubica Mitrovic, a hospital spokesperson, confirmed that Divac is in stable condition and remains under close medical supervision.
Divac, a 7-foot-1 Serbian native, was one of the first European players to make a significant impact in the NBA. Drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1989, he went on to play 16 seasons in the league, including stints with the Charlotte Hornets and Sacramento Kings. Known for his passing ability and basketball IQ, Divac was named an NBA All-Star in 2001 and became the first player born and trained outside the U.S. to appear in over 1,000 NBA games.
He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019 and also served as general manager of the Kings from 2015 to 2020. Beyond the NBA, Divac was a key figure for the Yugoslavian national team, helping them win multiple international medals, including two Olympic silvers.
In recent years, Divac has spent considerable time in Montenegro and Serbia, often appearing at basketball events and supporting youth development programs.
