For the first time in his 12-year NBA career, Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly open-minded about whether his long-term future remains with the Milwaukee Bucks or elsewhere. According to ESPN, the two-time NBA MVP has not made any firm decisions but is considering all possibilities following Milwaukee’s third consecutive first-round playoff exit.
Antetokounmpo, who has been the face of the Bucks franchise since being drafted in 2013, has previously reaffirmed his commitment to Milwaukee, signing two maximum extensions—one in 2020 and another in 2023. However, after another disappointing postseason, the 30-year-old superstar is reportedly evaluating whether staying in Milwaukee is the best path forward for his career.
Despite Milwaukee’s .663 win percentage since 2018-19, the team has won just one playoff series since capturing the 2021 NBA Championship. Antetokounmpo has repeatedly expressed his desire to win multiple titles, and the Bucks’ recent struggles may be influencing his decision-making.
“Me not having a second championship—I look back at my career and everybody can say, ‘Oh, incredible career, active Hall of Famer, first ballot, whatever.’ But me, my personal goal, if I am not able to help my team win a second ring, I’m letting down myself,” Antetokounmpo said last month on the Thanalysis Show podcast.
With NBA executives gathering in Chicago for the draft combine, discussions surrounding Antetokounmpo’s future are expected to intensify. Teams have frequently inquired about his availability over the years, but now, with Giannis himself open to exploring options, interest is expected to ramp up.
The Bucks and Antetokounmpo’s representatives, Giorgios Panou and Alex Saratsis, are expected to meet this offseason to discuss his future.
Antetokounmpo remains under contract with Milwaukee through 2026-27, with a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28. While no trade or departure is imminent, this offseason could mark a pivotal moment in his career.
For the Bucks, the priority will be convincing their franchise cornerstone that Milwaukee remains the best place for him to chase another championship.
