There are multiple developments going on with Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard, but if there’s one clear aspect, it is his desire to join forces with proven players rather than young prospects who may not provide significant impact right away.

Lillard is still on the hunt for an NBA championship, let alone an NBA Finals appearance. The past two seasons have been grueling for him, with the Blazers falling short of securing a spot in the NBA playoffs. Given these circumstances, it comes as no surprise that Lillard isn’t keen on building with unproven young players.

The Blazers didn’t fully adhere to Lillard’s preference, as evidenced by their decision to retain the No.3 overall pick and select the G League Ignite point guard Scoot Henderson. However, reports suggest that the team briefly touched on the idea of trading their promising rookie, notably for Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George.

Per GQ Sports:

“They did briefly discuss a swap of Henderson for Paul George”, according to a rival executive. “If they really were set on giving up Scoot, they could have gotten a really good return,” said the Western Conference exec. “I just don’t think they were committed enough to do it.”
