The Philadelphia 76ers Plan On Retiring Kobe Bryant’s Jersey

Michael Jordan is the only player in NBA history to have his jersey retired on a team he didn’t even play for.

The Miami Heat retired Jordan’s number 23 jersey in April 2003, to honor Jordan’s achievements and contributions in basketball. This also is why LeBron had to switch jersey numbers when going to South Beach.

But Jordan’s jersey might be getting some company – not literally, but figuratively – as the Philadelphia 76ers are giving serious consideration to retire a jersey for the late, great Kobe Bryant.

Bryant, who has both of his jerseys (8, 24) retired in Los Angeles, grew up in Philadelphia and played his high school ball for Lower Merion in Philly’s suburbs.

The Sixers therefore plan on retiring Kobe’s high school number 33.
