Shaquille O’Neal Gives Brutally Honest Take On Today’s Center Position: “Us Older Big Guys Don’t Look At It As Evolving”

The NBA has evolved into a league where centers get more freedom to operate outside of the paint and shoot threes on a regular. While most fans like how the 3-ball became an added element for the big guys, others are not really satisfied by it.

Shaquille O’Neal recently chimed in on the current status of today’s center position in terms of the changing style of play. He played in an era where post play was a bread-and-butter, and the three-point shot was the last resort. So, as one might expect, O’Neal is just never a fan.

According to the former Los Angeles Lakers superstar, he doesn’t look at the game as evolving, but rather soft since today’s centers prefer extending their range than getting the ball down low.

“The game is evolving. Us older big guys don’t look at it as evolving. We look at it as soft b/c guys don’t want to get down there & bang. Which is okay.

“New era new generation, I can’t tell them how to play. I can’t tell them what to do.”
