Russell Westbrook Reaches 25,000 Point Milestone, Gets ‘Assaulted’ By His Team Post-Game

Last season proved challenging for Russell Westbrook. He struggled with the Los Angeles Lakers and was often singled out for the team’s failures. This tension culminated in his trade to the Utah Jazz, after which he was waived and subsequently signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.

With the Clippers, Westbrook received a more positive vibe and settled into a team that seemed to be a better fit. Come playoff time, Westbrook balled out, posting 23.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists on 41.0% shooting from the field, even as his team was handicapped by injuries against the Phoenix Suns.

This season, Westbrook had to take a step back, especially after the Clippers had traded for James Harden. Westbrook however remains a valuable piece off the bench and a fan favorite.

Every once in a while, you see his former MVP-self on the floor. One of these games took place in Detroit last night.

Not only did the Los Angeles Clippers put on an offensive show in their 136-125 win over the Pistons, but also had the game see Russell Westbrook reach an impressive milestone.

Scoring 23 points on the night helped Westbrook in becoming only the 25th player in NBA history with 25,000 career points. With this feat, and perhaps even more impressively, Westbrook therefore joined LeBron James as the only other player in NBA history with at least 25,000 points, 9,000 assists, and 8,000 rebounds.

Once Westbrook hit the milestone, he immediately fouled Pistons guard Cade Cunningham to halt the game and celebrate with his teammates at the bench.

“I’m so grateful to be on this team,” Westbrook said after the game, “I don’t take any of this for granted.”

Once back in the locker room, things further escalated, as Westbrook’s teammates made sure to properly celebrate the incredible feat of their teammate.
