Donovan Mitchell was just traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers prior to the season and is under contract through the 2024-25 NBA season. That said, rumors and speculations about his future have already begun to swirl.

Mitchell and the Cavaliers are fresh off a playoff elimination, having knocked off by the New York Knicks in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series. The 26-year old shooting guard finished the series with averages of 23.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game on 43.3% shooting from the field.

After a disappointing defeat, The Athletic’s Jason Lloyd now spoke on what lies ahead for the Cavaliers star going forward, revealing that Mitchell has a desire to leave the Cavaliers and join the Knicks.

“You have two years of control left on Donovan Mitchell and then a player option year. More than likely, he’s not picking up the player option. … Do you really think after all the assets the Cavs gave up to bring him in that they’re gonna run the risk of letting him leave and getting nothing in return for him? No!

“From everyone I’ve talked to, he wants to go to New York. Does New York want him? I don’t know, but that’s where he wants to go.”
