Mike D’Antoni Reveals The Main Reason Why Players Are More Efficient In Today’s Era

The game is far different from what it was 10 years ago – aside from the three-point revolution, the NBA has seen more players put up highly-efficient scoring numbers, thus seeing a rising trend on efficiency on a team and individual level.

For the record, the league’s average true shooting percentage last season stood at 56.5%. In the 2009-10 season for example, it was at 54.3%. Moving down to the 1999-00 season, the NBA recorded a league average of 52.3% true shooting.

Of course, there are many factors as to why the NBA and its players have been incredibly efficient in ways unseen. For coach Mike D’Antoni, the reason why this trend is taking place is mainly because of the skill level in the NBA.

Per TrueHoop:

The main reason why everyone’s so efficient now is the skill level, coaches have figured out how spacing is. Now, you can not only shoot with your toe just behind the line, but even three feet behind it. Now you have more court to work with. And players are bigger, faster, stronger.”
