Malcolm Brogdon Tells Bucks To Stop ROTY Campaign And Give Money To Charity Instead

It is already easy to say that The NBA Draft Class of 2016’s rookie campaign was one of the most underwhelming in recent history. Number one pick Ben Simmons didn’t play a single game due to a broken foot, and only a few other class of 2016 rookies had a somewhat impressive rookie season. Amongst them is a second round draft pick.

Malcolm Brogdon only was the 36th overall pick last summer, but, overall, easily had the best year of all the class members. He started 26 games for Milwaukee and has season averages of 10.3 points, 4.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game, while shooting over 40 percent from downtown.

Now, Brogdon (whom teammates call ‘The President’), had an amazing request for his team. Instead of having a rookie of the year campaign (teams send out all kinds of fun packages to members of the media (eligible to vote) during these end of the season awards as well as pre All Star Game voting), Brogdon asked the Bucks to take that money and make a charitable donation instead. Milwaukee agreed and simply sent out a list of stats, instead of making a ‘real’ campaign. The list of stats is the following (via Ramona Shelburne):

We thought about producing some costly and gimmicky campaign materials to convince you to vote for Malcolm Brogdon for Rookie of the Year, but Malcolm asked us to take that money and make a charitable donation instead.

So in lieu of creating a bunch of fake $1 bills with Malcolm’s face on it (his teammates call him the president and he’s a Buck… get it?), here are some simple facts:

Heading into the final week of the season, Brogdon:

  • Leads all qualified rookies in win shares and ranks second in PER
  • Ranks first among qualified rookies in field goal percentage, 3-point field goal percentage, assists and steals per game
  • Is the only rookie to record a triple double this season (and the first rookie not drafted in the first round to do so since 1988)

I probably would have sent them a link to the following two clips. Brogdon posterizing LeBron James, and Brogdon posterizing Kyrie Irving.
