Jordan Brand Ends Carmelo Anthony’s Signature Shoe Deal

You can say that Carmelo Anthony’s summer was fairly successful. Not only did he join the Oklahoma City Thunder, to build the NBA’s next superteam, he also regained (positive) popularity through working out, and playing amazingly while wearing a hoodie. ‘Hoodie Melo’ was the meme of the summer. Now, that the summer is over, it seems as Melo’s lucky streak has come to a halt, too. According to Nick DePaula of ESPN, Jordan Brand has ended their Melo signature shoe series.

Jordan Brand is halting the Melo shoe series after 13 models, according to industry sources, making last season’s Melo M13 sneaker the final model of the line.

Despite the end of his signature line, sources say Anthony — who agreed to a new long-term endorsement deal with Jordan Brand in January — will remain a key featured athlete for the company.

This doesn’t mean that Anthony isn’t a Jordan Brand signed athlete anymore, but it is a loss in prestige. Maybe Melo will indeed be able to rekindle his career and reputation in Oklahoma. Who knows, we may see the first ‘Hoodie Melo’ signature shoe if he does.
