Five Years Ago Today, Dirk Nowitzki & Jamal Crawford Made History

 

In a fitting farewell to an illustrious career, Dirk Nowitzki played his final home game for the Dallas Mavericks on a memorable night, with him and Jamal Crawford sharing the spotlight, leaving fans in awe with awe-inspiring performances.

Five years ago today, on April 9, 2019, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, Nowitzki, Dirk broke the record for the oldest player to score 30+ points in a game at 40 years, and 229 days, and Crawford broke the record for the oldest player to score 50+ points in a game at 39 years, 20 days.

After the game, Nowitzki told the crowd assembled for his last home that season that he will be retiring at season’s end.

 

“This is obviously super, super emotional. Just too many people to really thank,” Nowitzki said. “I put you guys on a helluva ride with a lot of ups and downs, and you guys always stuck with me and supported me, so I appreciate it.”
