Draymond Green Owes ‘All Of His Success’ To Andrew Bogut

Hate him or love him, but Draymond Green is one of the best defenders in the NBA. He is a key part in the Warriors’ rotation, a jack of all trades, and the team’s defensive anchor. With the other All-Stars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant making the headlines more often, no one on the team would be as hard to replace as Green.

After being drafted, you could see Draymond’s potential at times, but one didn’t think the he could become a consistent All-Star player. But he’s proven everybody wrong and also hasn’t forgotten his mentor, Andrew Bogut.

When Green first came into the league, Bogut was the Warriors’ best defender during their first title run in 2015. Bogut would have had the chance to go down as one of the best defenders in league history even, if he didn’t have such bad luck with injuries.

But ever since Bogut left Oakland, Draymond Green has taken over, and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2017.  He also was selected into the NBA All-Defensive First Team from 2015 to 2017. This year, he was part of the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

In an interview, Green now praised Bogut for teaching him how to guard players on the post:

“Bogut showed me how to guard the post…I wouldn’t be half the defender I am without Andrew Bogut. He taught me so much about defense I owe all my success to him”
