DeMar DeRozan Explains How He Stopped Wearing Jordans Because Of Kobe Bryant

Before the season, DeMar DeRozan was seen as the worst off-season acquisition in the entire NBA by Bleacher Report. They saw the 32-year-old as a ‘poor fit with his new club and limited in worrisome ways for someone aging past his prime’.

Oh boy were they wrong. The Chicago Bulls currently own the number two seed in the Eastern Conference and DeMar DeRozan not only has played like an absolute superstar, but also like a serious MVP candidate this season.

During an appearance on Serge Ibaka’s show ‘How Hungry Are You?’, DeRozan now revealed the story why he stopped wearing Jordans after wearing them once, while previously only playing in Kobes since the start of his career.

The story goes back to Kobe Bryant going at anyone who ever disrespected him. During the early stages of his career, when he was still playing for the Raptors, before a game against the Lakers. DeMar opted to not wear Kobes when playing against Kobe, and put on Jordans for the first time in his career.

Big mistake…

“I said I’m not wearing his shoes and playing against him tonight, so I wore Jordans. He said, ‘the fuck you got those on for?” He was mad at me for doing that and he ended up hitting the game-winner on us. Never put another pair of Jordans on.”

Kobe Bryant hit the game winner in the game and DeRozan had learned his lesson and he never wore another pair of Jordans after that day.
