Colin Cowherd Compares Luka Doncic To Carmelo Anthony: “This Is Melo With A Three-Point Shot”

Luka Doncic is constantly compared to past and present NBA superstars. Names like LeBron James, James Harden, and Larry Bird all get thrown around. But NBA analyst Colin Cowherd goes off the usual comparisons, comparing Doncic to Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony was an offensive force during his playing days. He could score from mid-range, in the post, off the dribble, and even from three. Just a pure scorer who doesn’t need a lot of dribbling and can get his offense going with just jump shots alone.

On the other hand, Doncic thrives as a big guard controlling the ball and creating for others. He uses his pace to beat opponents, breaking them down with his dribbling and then scoring himself, or finding open teammates with pinpoint passes. He excels in pick-and-rolls, punishing defenders with either his attacking ability or his passing skills.

Despite their differences, Cowherd sees a link between them. He even suggests that Doncic is actually a bigger three-point threat than Anthony, a guy who’s ranked in the top 30 for career three-pointers made.

“He’s sort of Carmelo Anthony with a more refined game, better range,” said Cowherd. “I don’t know if I’m getting anything on the other end. I don’t know if his teams will succeed in the playoffs. I don’t know if he’s the greatest teammate, but buckets? This is Melo with a three-point shot. Like, you’re just going to get a lot of points.”
