LeBron James’ helicopter commute in Philadelphia is beginning to attract attention well beyond social media.
Investigative journalist Pablo Torre said NBA owners have personally contacted him about James’ use of a Fanatics-branded helicopter and that he is now “looking into” the arrangement. Torre made the comments during a Front Office Sports discussion, saying the story has drawn interest both as a business matter and potentially from people around the league.

The helicopter itself is not believed to be provided by the Philadelphia 76ers. According to previous reporting, James’ access to Fanatics corporate aviation is tied to a separate endorsement agreement he signed with the company in 2024. A representative for James has said that aviation access was included in that deal well before his move to Philadelphia.
There is currently no public evidence that the Sixers are paying for the flights, that Fanatics’ arrangement violates NBA rules, or that the league has opened an investigation. Torre himself stopped short of making such a claim, describing the situation as something worth examining rather than evidence of wrongdoing.
Still, the optics have generated questions because Fanatics founder Michael Rubin previously held a minority ownership stake in the 76ers before selling it in 2022. James, meanwhile, is reportedly using the helicopter while splitting his time between New York and Philadelphia. That combination appears to be what has prompted rival owners to ask whether the benefit is simply part of an independent commercial relationship or something the league could eventually want to review more closely.
Torre said some owners have been forwarding him coverage of the arrangement and essentially asking, “What is this?” His comments are notable given his recent reporting on alleged salary-cap circumvention elsewhere in the NBA, but the James situation remains at a much earlier and more uncertain stage.
