Dillon Brooks has provided the backstory behind the viral clip of him laughing while watching LeBron James from courtside – and his explanation is exactly as mischievous as NBA fans expected.
Brooks said he attended the game with a ticket provided by Rich Paul, then noticed James directing his attention toward a Lakers fan in the crowd. According to Brooks, LeBron appeared to believe the fan had been throwing shade at him and acknowledged it during the exchange.
Brooks found the entire scene hilarious, especially with the Lakers trailing 3-0 in the series.
“I’m looking at him like, ‘Oh my God, he’s really worried about this fan right here? You’re down 3-0 now,’” Brooks recalled.
He said he turned toward his agent and questioned why James appeared focused on something happening in the stands rather than the situation on the court.
The camera caught Brooks laughing, and the image quickly became a perfect addition to his long-running rivalry with James. Brooks has never hidden his willingness to challenge, provoke or simply annoy the NBA’s biggest names, and his courtside reaction required no words to make its point.
His explanation also makes the moment even funnier. Brooks was not laughing because James had spoken directly to him. He was laughing because, from his perspective, LeBron was allowing a random fan to occupy his attention during a crucial playoff game.
