For a few wild minutes, it appeared the Miami Heat had accidentally announced the biggest move of the NBA offseason.
A scheduled livestream briefly appeared on the Heat’s official YouTube channel under the title, “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference | July 27, 2026.” Its description welcomed James back as a member of the franchise. The listing was quickly made private, but not before screenshots spread across social media and turned an ordinary night into a full-scale free-agency investigation.

The obvious conclusion was that Miami had spoiled James’ decision before he could announce it himself. The Heat later pushed back on that interpretation, explaining that the video was mistakenly published while their social media department was preparing content for the possibility that James might choose Miami.
James has not publicly selected his next team, even though Miami has openly acknowledged its interest and has communicated with his representation. Pat Riley has already made it clear that the door remains open for a reunion, but interest is not the same as a completed deal.
Still, the episode gave Heat fans exactly what they needed to fuel another round of speculation. Teams routinely prepare graphics, videos and contingency plans for multiple outcomes. They are not supposed to accidentally let the public see them.
Miami says it was only getting ready… just in case. The internet, naturally, has already decided the press conference is real.
