Darryn Peterson’s first night in a Utah Jazz uniform was not quiet, cautious or rookie-like. It was a statement.
The No. 2 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft opened Salt Lake City Summer League with 28 points in 27 minutes, leading the Jazz to a 103–102 overtime win over the Atlanta Hawks. Peterson shot 11-for-21 from the field and 4-for-7 from three, adding five rebounds, two assists and two blocks in a debut that immediately showed why Utah bet big on him.
@opencourtDARRYN PETERSON‘S UNREAL JAZZ DEBUT 🔥 Wow, what a player! Darryn Peterson had an impressive first game for the Utah Jazz. He finished with 28 points (50% FG, 50% 3s), 4 boards, 2 assists and 2 blocks in only 24 minutes. 😮💨♬ original sound – OpenCourt-Basketball
The best part was not just the scoring. It was the comfort. Peterson looked like a player who already believes the ball belongs in his hands when the game gets tight. He created off the dribble, hit jumpers, attacked space and delivered clutch buckets. For a Jazz team trying to build its next great core, that matters more than any Summer League box score.
The Jazz drafted Peterson because they needed a potential franchise guard, someone who can score at all three levels and eventually organize an offense around his shot-making. One game does not prove all of that.
But one game can introduce the idea. And in his first night, Darryn Peterson introduced himself loudly.
