Vince Goodwill Floats Bold Stephen Curry Prediction: “I Think Steph Is Gonna Retire After Next Year”

A dynasty doesn’t usually get a clean ending in the NBA, and that’s exactly why Vince Goodwill’s latest prediction around Stephen Curry landed with such force.

On ESPN’s Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective, Goodwill said he believes Curry could be nearing the finish line sooner than many assume.

“I think Steph Curry is gonna retire after next year,” Goodwill said during a discussion about the Warriors’ long-term outlook and the idea of Curry potentially playing in the 2028 Olympics.

It’s a striking statement not because Curry has announced anything, he hasn’t, but because it runs counter to the more open-ended tone Curry has used publicly. In a recent interview, Curry said retirement isn’t something he views as imminent, explaining that the moment “will declare itself” and adding that he doesn’t think it’s “anytime soon.”

The timing is also what makes the prediction feel at least plausible on paper. Curry is under contract with Golden State through the 2026–27 season after agreeing to a one-year extension in 2024, meaning “after next year” would align with the end of the current deal cycle if he chose to walk away then.

For now, Goodwill’s comment should be treated as exactly what it is: an insider’s projection, not a report of Curry’s plans. But it speaks to the larger reality hovering over Golden State, every season now gets filtered through the question of how the Curry era ends, and whether the Warriors can script something graceful before the final shot actually arrives.
