Shot At Lakers? D’Angelo Russell Says Dallas Gave Him Structure He Never Had Before

Last season brought another change for D’Angelo Russell, who was dealt from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Brooklyn Nets. For a player who had faced constant criticism in Los Angeles, the move was easily foreseen.

In Brooklyn, Russell logged 29 games, averaging 12.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists on 36.7% shooting from the field. That stint ended quickly though, as free agency opened the door for another move, with Russell leaving Brooklyn to sign with the Dallas Mavericks.

Now, it’s safe to say last season wasn’t Russell’s best. But in Dallas, he’ll have Jason Kidd guiding him and teammates like Cooper Flagg, Klay Thompson, Dereck Lively II, Anthony Davis, and Kyrie Irving by his side. That setup could give Russell the opportunity for redemption.

He seems to believe so too. In a recent interview, Russell credited the Mavericks’ structure as a reason he sees himself fitting in well, while suggesting his past teams didn’t quite have that kind of support.

“I’ve had limited structure in my career. So to get to an organization, as you can see, full on structure from the youth, coaches, from veterans, to plug me into something like that, I like my odds.”
