Dennis Schröder is on the move again.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded the German point guard to the Charlotte Hornets, sending Schröder to the 12th different franchise of his NBA career.
Charlotte becomes the latest destination in one of the league’s most fascinating basketball journeys. Since being drafted by Atlanta in 2013, Schröder has also represented Oklahoma City, the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston, Houston, Toronto, Brooklyn, Golden State, Detroit, Sacramento and Cleveland. The Cavaliers had become his 11th franchise following a three-team trade during the 2025–26 season.
Now the Hornets join the list.
Schröder’s arrival gives Charlotte an experienced ball-handler who can organize the offense, create his own shot and bring considerable international and postseason experience to the backcourt. His exact role will depend on the Hornets’ remaining roster decisions, but the veteran has repeatedly shown that he can contribute as either a starter or an aggressive reserve.
The move also pushes Schröder closer to an unusual NBA record. Ish Smith holds the all-time mark after appearing for 13 different franchises during his career. Once Schröder takes the floor for Charlotte, he will have played for 12 – leaving him only one team away from tying the record.
It is an extraordinary number, but it also reflects Schröder’s durability and continued value. NBA teams keep acquiring him because they continue to believe he can help.
Charlotte is simply the newest chapter.
