Skip Bayless Rips LeBron James Over Delayed Free-Agency Decision

Skip Bayless has never needed much encouragement to criticize LeBron James, and the superstar’s prolonged free-agency process has provided his longtime antagonist with fresh material.

Bayless called James’ delay “pathetic” and argued that the 41-year-old is stretching out the decision because he craves attention. He claimed that attention is essentially James’ “air,” suggesting the uncertainty has become another carefully controlled LeBron-centered spectacle.

James has not announced where he will play during the 2026-27 season after informing the Los Angeles Lakers that he would not return. His agent, Rich Paul, has pushed back against the idea that the process is designed for publicity, insisting that James is making a major personal and business decision and will not be rushed by the league, teams or media.

Bayless clearly is not buying that explanation. From his perspective, James has already had enough time to evaluate his options and is now allowing the suspense to become the story.

That criticism fits a familiar pattern. Bayless has spent years questioning James’ mentality, leadership and legacy, while LeBron has largely avoided responding directly. This latest attack is therefore unlikely to influence the actual decision.

It will, however, add more noise to a situation already overflowing with speculation.
