The Oklahoma City Thunder are moving on, completing a first-round sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies. But depending on who you ask, that sweep might’ve never happened if Ja Morant hadn’t gone down in Game 3.
With Morant on the court in Game 3, the Grizzlies jumped out to a 29-point lead and looked firmly in control. But late in the second quarter, Morant went up for a dunk, fell hard, and suffered a hip injury that knocked him out of the game. The Thunder responded with a strong rally and closed out both the game and the series in his absence.
You can’t deny the Thunder’s dominance. They’ve been the best team all year, and they know how to close games. But could this series have looked different if Morant hadn’t gotten hurt? Memphis guard Scottie Pippen Jr. thinks it could’ve.
“We felt pretty well…it could go either way if he doesn’t go out.”
