Getting inside Madison Square Garden for the New York Knicks’ championship celebration could cost nearly as much as some fans spend on an entire season of basketball.
Tickets for New York’s October 20 home opener against the Philadelphia 76ers have surged to extraordinary levels on the secondary market. As of August 11, TickPick listed the cheapest available seat at $1,999, which the ticket marketplace described as the highest get-in price it has recorded for an NBA home opener.
And $1,999 is not necessarily the ceiling for simply entering the building. Prices vary considerably between ticket platforms and can change by the hour. SeatGeek listings cited Tuesday started at approximately $2,219, while another ticket tracker placed the get-in cost above $2,100.
There are several reasons demand has exploded.
The Knicks will open the season as defending NBA champions and are expected to celebrate their 2026 title by raising a championship banner and receiving their rings at Madison Square Garden. On the other side will be a dramatically rebuilt Philadelphia team featuring LeBron James, creating one of the most anticipated opening-night games in recent memory.
The combination of New York’s championship celebration, James’ first regular-season appearance with Philadelphia and the limited supply of seats inside Madison Square Garden has created a secondary-market frenzy months before tipoff.
