ESPN broadcaster and sports analyst Stephen A. Smith recently opened up about why he has never gotten married. Speaking on rapper Cam’ron’s “Talk With Flee” podcast, Smith shared that his demanding schedule and the nature of his work have played significant roles in his decision to remain single.
Smith explained that his busy work life made it difficult for him to maintain a faithful relationship.
“I know that it’s hard, I know that it’s worn on some people as well. It is the reason why I’ve never been married, because I was on the road 200 days out of the year and the fact of the matter is at that time it was no way in hell I was going to be faithful,” Smith said.
The 57-year-old sports analyst, who has two daughters, revealed that he was previously engaged but chose not to pursue marriage due to his hectic schedule.
Smith’s revelation comes amid speculation that he might run for the 2028 United States presidential election. Despite his busy career, Smith has expressed interest in the possibility of entering politics, provided his financial situation is secure.
“Assuming that I’m well off, that I have lots of money, and money is no longer a concern, if the American people came to me and looked at me and said ‘Yo, man, we want you to run for office,’ and I had a legitimate shot to win the presidency of the United States, I’m not gonna lie. I’ll think about that,” Smith said.
As one of the most recognizable on-air personalities in sports media, Smith’s candidness about his personal life and potential political aspirations has added another layer to his already multifaceted public persona.
