The Defensive Player of the Year award has always been a dream for many elite defenders in the NBA, including Anthony Davis. Despite being one of the best in the league, Davis has often shared his frustration about never winning the award. This season, he knows his chances might slip away once again.
The reason? Victor Wembanyama. The 7-foot-4 big man is blocking everything in sight and making opponents think twice about stepping into the paint or scoring over him. His dominance on that end has quickly made him the favorite to win the award this season.
And Davis knows this all too well, as he stated in a recent interview with NBA insider Shams Charania. However, he’s personally quite hesitant to give the nod to Wembanyama just yet, questioning whether the focus is solely on blocks.
“The narrative is being pushed for Wemby to get it. Obviously he’s averaging what like 4 blocks or something crazy like that but then it goes back to are we talking about just blocks? I don’t know how anything works anymore”
