Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis found himself at the center of controversy following his confusing response when asked about playing on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The Latvian center appeared unaware of who MLK was, leading to a wave of reactions from fans on social media. During a mid-game interview, Porzingis said,
“It’s huge. Lot of celebration today. Good that we had some police escorts to get to the arena. And it’s always nice to play on a holiday.”

His comments left many fans perplexed, with some interpreting them as a lack of understanding of MLK’s significance.
The backlash was swift, with fans criticizing Porzingis for his apparent ignorance.
“He has no clue,”
one fan wrote on X, while another added,
“White European being asked about a civil rights icon is a crazy setup.”
Some fans even suggested that Porzingis may have misunderstood the question, thinking it was about Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration.
Porzingis had an impressive game with 18 points and seven rebounds in the Celtics’ blowout win over the Golden State Warriors, but unfortunately for him, it was his interview that was the talk of town.
