Stephon Marbury Believes Gregg Popovich Is The Perfect Man For The Nets’ Open Head Coaching Spot

Brooklyn Nets fans can be looking forward to the 2020-21 season in anticipation.

A healthy Kevin Durant, a healthy Kyrie Irving, a third star in Caris LeVert and a more than decent supporting cast. If things click between the two superstars, and if they’re able to remain healthy, the Nets could become a contender, not only in the East, but the entire NBA.

The only thing missing is a coach to put all of the assets together – in comes San Antonio Spurs legend Gregg Popovich.

The rumor of Brooklyn looking to make a Godfather offer to Popovich got some more fuel after Pop and the Spurs missed the playoffs for the first time since his first season as head coach of the San Antonio Spurs in 1996.

Multiple league sources expect Brooklyn to explore bringing in Gregg Popovich, according to a report by Los Angeles Times’ Dan Woike.

While other coaches like Jason Kidd are also in closer consideration (it indeed seems highly unlikely for Gregg Popovich to jump ship for the first time at this stage of his career, even if the Nets were to prepare a godfather offer ), former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury believes that Popovich would be the best man for the job. That’s what ‘Starbury’ revealed on the “Heavy with Scoop B Show.”

“I think I would probably go with experience and championships with Popovich. I think Popovich, he has a great rapport with players. Jason Kidd, I think he will continue to flourish as a coach. But I would go with experience over a coach who has coached for X amount of years.”

I’m a coach right now and I think people would probably pass on me because there are some things I still am learning as a coach. I think with Popovich being in the position where he’s won multiple championships and he’s built a dynasty over an organization over the NBA, I would probably say that.”
