Dallas Mavericks backup guard Brandon Williams was arrested on Saturday, October 26, at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport after TSA agents discovered marijuana in his luggage.
According to arrest records obtained by DLLS Sports and confirmed by WFAA, Williams was found carrying approximately 1.585 ounces of marijuana in a black container inside his bag while attempting to pass through security at Terminal C.
Williams reportedly told authorities that his manager had packed the bag. He was taken into custody around 10:02 a.m. and charged with possession of marijuana. The arrest was handled without incident, and Williams was later released.
Williams had been listed as “out” on the Mavericks’ injury report for “personal reasons” and missed the team’s last two games. His arrest now sheds light on the nature of that absence. The Mavericks, already dealing with injuries to key guards Kyrie Irving and Dante Exum, had been relying on Williams for depth in the backcourt.
The team has not issued an official statement regarding the arrest, and Williams’ status for upcoming games remains uncertain.
The Mavericks are off to a rocky start in the 2025–26 season, with a 1–3 record and growing concerns about roster depth and discipline. Williams, who went undrafted in 2021 and joined Dallas in 2023 after stints with the Portland Trail Blazers and G League affiliates, had been averaging 6.3 points and 1.8 rebounds in limited minutes.
In Texas, possession of marijuana under two ounces is classified as a Class B misdemeanor, which can carry fines and potential jail time. It’s unclear whether Williams will face further disciplinary action from the NBA or the Mavericks organization.
