Russell Westbrook Reportedly Impossible To Stay With The Los Angeles Lakers Next Season Amid Rising Tension

The Los Angeles Lakers have underwhelmed this season, and many believe that Russell Westbrook’s acquisition has been one of the leading factors.

The Lakers are currently the 9th seed with a 28-35 record. In that stretch, Westbrook has averaged 18.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game on 43.4% shooting from the field and 28.4% from the three-point area.

Westbrook doesn’t deserve to be the lone scapegoat of the team given that the Lakers have plenty of pressing issues outside of him and have even struggled even without him on the floor. However, there’s no question that his fit hasn’t been ideal and his arrival hasn’t led to substantial positive results.

As Westbrook’s situation in LA continues to spiral, NBA reporter Marc Stein has reported that it’s impossible that Westbrook completes another season with the Lakers due to the tension levels that have been brewing between the two parties.

Per Marc Stein’s Substack:

“There has been no shortage of defiance behind the scenes, I’m told, when coaches and teammates have tried to broach changes in role or approach with the former MVP.

For all the obvious complexities involved in trying to move Westbrook when he’s owed a whopping $47 million next season at age 34, one league source described the idea of bringing him back next season as “impossible” based on current tension levels.”
