NBA Insider Points Out Clippers’ Concern Which Stems From Kawhi’s Lack Of Leadership: “Kawhi Leonard Is Not LeBron James”

Despite of how good he is, it’s pretty obvious that Kawhi Leonard’s reserved personality is holding him back as a team leader, and it was evident throughout the games in the NBA bubble where the Los Angeles Clippers were in dire need of an engaged leader who could step up and direct the team in different ways.

Kawhi’s questionable leadership skills were overshadowed back in San Antonio and Toronto. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich even previously mentioned that Kawhi wasn’t filling the leadership role in San Antonio, but his veteran teammates. Same case could be said for the Toronto Raptors with Kyle Lowry.

With the lack of a reputable leader on the Los Angeles Clippers’ roster, NBA insider and ESPN senior writer Ramona Shelburne suggests that the team has to prioritize bringing in a point guard who suits a leadership role, consequently questioning Kawhi’s leadership ability and lack of resemblance to four-time champion LeBron James.

“Your leader cannot be your coach, the loudest voice in the room can not be your coach, it has to be somebody on the court… In this off-season, they need to acquire a true point guard, somebody who can bring a leadership ability because Kawhi Leonard missed that Kyle Lowry type point guard.

“Kawhi Leonard is not LeBron James, he can’t slide over and say, ‘oh we don’t have a real point guard, I’ll do it’, that’s not his game either.”
