Michael Jordan Told Byron Scott He Was Going To Score 50 Points And Ended Up Doing So

Former Laker (player and coach) Byron Scott once shared his best Michael Jordan story on the ‘Dan Patrick Show’. Scott had one great story ready and talked about the time Jordan told him he was going to drop 50 points before a game in 1992, and then went out and actually did it.

Scott himself didn’t play Jordan that day due to an injury. But he made clear that he always liked to defend Jordan; with a unique tactic. Kindness!

“I enjoyed guarding Mike, cause the one thing I did with Mike was I never got him pissed off. He makes a shot, you say ‘good shot Mike’. You don’t talk trash to him so he can go off for 60. You tryna kill him with kindness.”

B-Scott’s sprained ankle caused Anthony Peeler to become the unlucky guy who had to defend Jordan. When MJ got notice of Peeler guarding him, all he said was ’50’. He did stick with his word.

“MJ says, “B-Scott, what’s going on?”, I say ‘what’s up MJ?!’ “[Jordan] I hear you’re not playing tonight?!” ‘No, I spraind my ankle.’ He said: “Who’s guarding me?”  I said: “Anthony Peeler.” He’s like [proceeds to imitates Jordan’s laugh]: “50!”

So I told Anthony Peeler ‘listen, MJ’s probably going for about 50 tonight, just don’t piss him off, just be cool’.

He ended up with 54…”
