Isaiah Thomas: ‘I’m First Team All Defense’

After trailing two games to none in their first round playoff series against the Chicago Bulls, the Boston Celtics have come back and took the lead by winning three straight games.

Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley, Boston’s backcourt duo, have been the main reason the for Celtics to come back. Bradley – one of the league’s best defenders,

“Everyone knows he’s a good defender” -Dwyane Wade

and Thomas – one of the league’s best scorers and offensive weapons. But, their roles got kind of reversed in game 5. Avery Bradley scored 24 points (while still playing some stellar defense), and Isaiah Thomas perfectly defended Jimmy Butler on two possessions.

During their post game press conference after the game, Bradley was asked what he thought of Thomas’ defense. But Isaiah quickly jumped the gun on the question by jokingly saying:

 

“I’m first team, that’s why. All defense”

Bradley then said, that Thomas’ defense is underrated, but Thomas intervened once again saying:

 

“Don’t hype me, don’t hype me — They say I’m the worst defender in the league, I’m fine with being the worst defender.”
