Goodyear Logo To Be On Cavliers Jersey Next Season

About one year ago, the NBA approved NBA teams to sign a company as a jersey sponsor. The Sacramento Kings (Blue Diamond), Philadelphia 76ers (StubHub), Utah Jazz (Qualtrics), Brooklyn Nets (Infor) and Boston Celtics (GE), have already landed such sponsorship deal.

According to ESPN, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be the next team to have a company logo on their jerseys, when the new season starts. Goodyear will place their logo on the Cavaliers jersey, and accoring to NBA rules, the logo has to be sized 2.5-by-2.5 inches.

Goodyear seems to be a fitting partner for the Cavs, having their headquarters in LeBron James’ hometown of Akron, Ohio. LeBron James himself said in a statement:

“Every Akron kid grew up seeing the Wingfoot in the sky on the blimp and feeling pride in our community. There is something special for me personally having that logo on the Cavs uniform.”

The sponsorship deal will be worth an estimated $7 million to $10 million a year. According to Eric Smallwood of Apex Marketing Group (sponsorship evaluation firm), the sponsorship value could possibly be worth up to $30 million per year, if you include other components such as video games social media advertising, and trading cards.

Teams will be able to sell jerseys with the sponsorship logo at their arenas and team stores, but the jerseys sold nationwide and through the NBA stores won’t.
