Draymond Green Reveals Kevin Durant Wanted To Play For The Warriors Even Before 3-1 Collapse In 2016 WCF

Kevin Durant got the NBA world reeling when he announced his decision to join the Golden State Warriors following the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 3-1 collapse against the very same team during the 2016 Western Conference Finals.

Durant spent three seasons with the Warriors and averaged 25.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game on 52.4% shooting from the field. The Warriors won two championships, with Durant capturing the Finals MVP each time.

Though it’s been three years since Durant last played for the Dubs, his Warriors tenure is still one of the most controversial topics among basketball discussions at this present time.

Now appearing on “Checck’n In” podcast, Durant’s former teammate Draymond Green sheds more light on Durant’s past interest in joining the team. According to Green, the 33-year old superstar wanted to join the Warriors even before the Thunder’s defeat in the Western Conference Finals.

Per NBC Sports:

“KD wanted to play good basketball,” Green said on the “Checc’n In” podcast on Wednesday. “You saw the type of basketball we was playing, guys moving the ball. It’s Steph hot. Everybody running screen for Steph. Everybody trying to get Steph the ball; we having fun.

“He wanted to play good basketball. We were playing the best brand of basketball. The brand of basketball that we play, pass, move. No one in the NBA was playing that brand of basketball except for the San Antonio Spurs.

“Everybody’s running pick and roll and taking advantage of mismatches because that was the cycle that the NBA was in,” Green added. “We then changed the game of basketball and how basketball was played.

“KD saw that. KD wanted to play that brand of basketball. KD wanted to play with us … In my heart, believe before it ever came to them being up 3-1. KD wanted to come to the Warriors.”
