Damon Jones Believes Why Jayson Tatum Deserves MVP Over Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Jayson Tatum is on a hot streak, averaging 27.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game on 47.5% shooting from the field this season. Not only are his numbers elite, but he’s also leading the Celtics to the No.1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

However, despite his impressive performance and team success, Tatum currently sits fifth in the Kia MVP race according to the latest rankings. He trails players like Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic.

While those ahead of Tatum are all talented players with strong MVP arguments, many fans and pundits believe he should be leading the race given his impact on the Boston Celtics. Former Cleveland Cavaliers guard Damon Jones is one such voice advocating for Tatum.

“I think, in my opinion, Jayson Tatum deserves to be the front-runner for MVP this year because he’s the best player on the best team.”

Despite growing support for Tatum’s MVP candidacy, his ranking hasn’t yet reflected this public opinion. Draymond Green even gave his two cents about it recently, suggesting that Tatum needs a championship to be truly considered a top contender in the MVP race.

“Jayson Tatum will not be taken seriously for MVP until he wins a championship. It hasn’t been that way for everybody else.”
