Damian Lillard Reveals How LeBron James Tried To Recruit Him To The Lakers

Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard is considered to be a successor of Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant – someone to remain with his franchise for the entirety of his career.

Earlier this summer, Damian Lillard continued to show loyalty to the Blazers, as the point guard agreed to a two-year, $122 million extension. The extension will have Lillard wear a Blazers jersey through the 2025-26 NBA season, as it includes a player option for the 2026-27 season.

Last summer however, there were some trade rumors floating around. And while Lillard never officially requested a trade from the Blazers, they did their best to trigger one, by striking out in free agency once again, failing to surround Lillard with championship contending talent.

During this time, LeBron James tried to recruit Lillard to the Los Angeles Lakers. Dame now revealed how James approached him, and what he said. The two ran into each other during an Aces vs. Sparks WNBA game, leading to LeBron inviting Lillard to his home, where Anthony Davis joined them.

Per The Ringer:

“He was just like, ‘Pull up to the house,’, and I’m like, shit, I’m out here. Tomorrow is the only day I ain’t got nothing planned out. I can pull up for a little bit.

I wasn’t even looking at it like a recruiting process. The whole time I was like, ‘I play for the Blazers.’ My only point is, let’s give ourselves a chance. I wasn’t sending no shots or sending no threats. I’m just honest. When I get asked a question, I answer the question. Because these questions had never been asked.”
