Allen Iverson Loathed The Idea Of Forming A Superteam With Shaquille O’Neal Or Kobe Bryant

The current trend of the NBA pushes towards forming superteams which are mostly composed by three stars or some sort of a top-heavy roster. While some players tend to resort with it, others however are unwilling to buy into that idea.

Had it been more popular in the earlier years of the NBA, Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson still couldn’t imagine being in a position to form a superteam, particularly with Shaquille O’Neal or Kobe Bryant, he said during ‘The Fat Joe Show’.

“I could never imagine like playing with Shaq or playing with Kobe.” Iverson said. “You know what I mean, I would feel like it would be too easy for me.”

Allen Iverson was one of the most profound underdogs in the early 2000s. In 2001, Iverson led one of the worst rosters to the NBA Finals and managed to steal a game against the Shaq and Kobe led Los Angeles Lakers that went undefeated in the Western Conference.

Although Iverson had Defensive Player of the Year Dikembe Mutombo, Sixth Man of the Year Aaron McKie and Coach of the Year Larry Brown, the team didn’t really stack up with other top-tier teams that reached the Finals in NBA history.

It would’ve been intriguing to see Iverson compete for a championship with a top-tier squad with either Shaq or Kobe. But as interesting as it is, Iverson’s competitive drive wouldn’t have allowed him to team up with some of the best players to ever play just to win a championship.
