Anthony Davis may be one of the NBA’s 75 greatest players of all time, but that apparently doesn’t earn him a free pass in the Washington Wizards’ locker room.
As Washington prepares for the 2026-27 season, Davis has revealed that the team’s younger players have shown no hesitation in challenging him and holding him accountable, regardless of his accomplishments or reputation.
One particularly amusing example involved second-year guard Tre Johnson, who delivered a brutally honest assessment of the veteran superstar following a practice session.
“You weren’t top 75 today,” Johnson told Davis, according to the 10-time All-Star.

Rather than simply looking up to established veterans, the Wizards’ younger players appear comfortable challenging them and demanding the same level of accountability they are expected to demonstrate themselves.
That attitude could prove valuable for a franchise looking to turn the corner after several difficult seasons. With Davis and Trae Young providing veteran star power alongside promising young talents such as Johnson, Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George and 2026 first overall pick AJ Dybantsa, Washington enters the new campaign with a significantly different outlook.
For Davis, who brings championship experience and an extensive list of individual accolades to the organization, establishing the right standards will be an important part of his leadership role.
